Some Photographs

It has been long since I took out my camera and shot few pictures. During my marriage break I had an opportunity to do so. The story is that I am very much disappointed with so called Photography Experts GK Vale. I have given them a roll and asked them to develop and give scanned (negs) pictures in digital format. They have done a very shabby job. The pictures are over bright, no sharpness, no proper color (I guess the film used is not that bad) and debris here n there.

I am very much unhappy the way they handled the negs also. When I went to pickup they are giving me uncut negs and I asked them to cut and give. It went thorough several hands and finally the lady did a sloppy job of putting all her fingers over it (I should have done it myself).

I am struggling to find a professional guy who can handle things in professional way in Bangalore. This incident increased my desire to switch to a Digital SLR, which I am planning for some time. I am soon going to get Canon EOS 20D.

UPDATE
Ok call me a lazy guy again. A quick Google search revealed that the seeds in the picture are called Abrus Precatorius, which are very poisonous. I have bitten one these to see how hard they are! Nothing happened to me as of now! Plenty of these seeds are there in my home! Pragya collected them for decoration. More pictures here.

Women are every where!

It is nice to see women in 21st century advancing day by day in various fields and giving competition to guys (International women’s day was celebrated yesterday 8th March).

Some how I find higher percent of women doing various jobs are bit rusty, blond type! etc. For example look at a call center lady trying to promote a credit card offer to me over the telephone

Tring Tring ...
Me: Hello
Lady: Madam I am calling for so n so bank regarding .....
Me: Sorry!
Lady: Madam ....
Me: Grrr .. Do I sound like a female to you?
Lady: Sorry Sir ...

I have been using telephone for years now; no one ever told me that I sound like a female at the other end!

Today morning I went to fill petrol to a BP station near Madiwala police station on Hosur road. This service station employed all women workers. I drove near the filling station and stopped my car and told the lady that I need 15 ltrs. She programmed the station for 15 (which one I didn’t see. You can program the amount as well as volume) then showed me the zero and started filling. Immediately it stopped at 15, so I wondered why and looked at the station display and found that she has programmed it to fill 15 bucks instead of 15 ltrs so total petrol went in was 0.34 lts. Without much of hesitation she was closing the inlet, I said you filled just 15 bucks of petrol then she looked at the display and said sorry and re-programmed to 15 ltrs and filled in.

She told the other lady who collects the money that it is for 15 ltrs without the mention of 15 bucks she has put before. Then I gave 700 bucks to the lady and said take 15 bucks more (663.30 + 15 = 678.30) because she has put 15 bucks more fuel by mistake. She said fine and shoved 42 bucks in my hand and she left. I called her and said you need to give me only 22 bucks. She said sorry and took back 20 bucks.

I just thought of talking to their manager to warm him. One lady puts more petrol and don’t mention it for the payment and the other gives more money than what you are supposed to get. This phenomenon is quite opposite to the other stations where the guys are employed. Here they try to put less fuel (by distracting you) and take full money or give you less change (again by distracting). They have more ways to cheat than what you can imagine.

Last example is of a sloppy body shopper (Lady)
Day 1: Tring Tring ...

Me: Hello
Lady: May I know your name? (This lady is not at all good in conversing in English)
Me: Why you need it? and who are you?
Lady: I am from some technical blah blah company, we would like to send some technical information for your benefit. What area you work in?
Me: [100% body shopper = sloppiness + query mode] What kind of technical info?
Lady: blah blah …
Me: No I do not need any of your tech info. Thank you.
Lady: Can you please tell me your name for reference
Me: Ok my name is Subhash

Day 2: Tring Tring ...

Me: Hello
Lady: Am I speaking to Mr. Subhash [there she is even a small kind will recognize her once you listened to her before, ok lets see what she is up to]
Me: Ya speaking
Lady: I am so n so calling from blah blah placement company [there she is right up to the point] ...
Me: You called me yesterday right pretending to give me some tech info?
Lady: No sir I am calling you for the first time, I don’t know what you are talking about?
Me: How did you get my name?
Lady: It is there in our records sir
Me: Don’t try to be smart with me I gave you my name yesterday when you acted to be a kind tech info provider
Lady: Sir I don’t understand what you are talking ...
Me: Ok I am not interested in any placements, thanks

Maintaining correct/updated information on websites

Looks like in New Zealand a restaurant is fined for not maintaining correct information on their website, which violations their Fair Trading Act.

I wish such a law should have been there in India also. Around 99% of Indian websites carry more than 1 year old information, leading to your frustration when you want to find some information. They feel having a website is some kind of status symbol but not aware of whole and sole purpose of a website.

One of the examples is Milestone Interactive, one of the leading game distributor in India also the guys who brought PS2 to India along with PS2 games. These guys are bunch of jerks, their website always remains 1 year old and not surprisingly enough works only with IE.

There are plenty more like this, even popular Planet M etc. also have more stuff in their stores than what they show on their websites. Always visiting their store is more informative than checking it online!
